Trader’s Tech – ClocX #4

Tim Black hosts the live trading room for the Asia trading session. His background is in computers and technology. He is addicted to technology, charts and technical analysis and enjoys teaching and sharing his viewpoints in these areas.

Traders, particularly scalpers, must closely watch the close of every candle to garner clues as to where the market is going. So it’s very important to have a good clock with a second hand. I spent quite a bit of time looking for that very application.

ClocX serves my needs perfectly. It is a completely customizable analog clock application. You can adjust the size, choose the look, display the date and change a myriad of other features. The best feature of all is it’s FREE….

ClocX can be set to be partially or completely transparent when you mouse over it, so it can be put in a convenient spot and doesn’t eat up valuable screen real estate.  You can also configure it to allow you to “click through” to an application beneath it.

I prefer the MondaineSmall skin for my configuration. It seems to be the cleanest and easiest to read. But the nice thing about this application is that you can tell me I’m an idiot, disagree with me and select another skin for your use. 😉

I’m working diligently on a post about the Oanda FXTrade/FXGame platform later today so stay tuned.

May the pips be with you!

Hi Tim, After reading this article I found clocX much better than the default Windows gadget clock in the fact that one can move and click through it. Some of your followers might find an improvement to memory resources by disabling the Antialiasing found in the General window. Also Cam Studio is another image and video capture program that minimizes the use of CPU cycles, thereby reducing the need for resources. I mainly use a laptop so I like to conserve memory and processing resources. Thank you again for all of your posts. Your analysis and articles are very insightful and helpful.

JR, open your widgets and add one called “World Clock”. You can add as many as you like. I currently have 10 clocks. Starting with the Auckland Open (You will have to choose Wellington from the menu on the back of the clock) to the NY closing. Also each clock displays a light or dark background to indicate day or night. If you need help setting it up, contact me thru Casey.

Well, I am bilingual with computers so, I installed the clock on my Windows PC. Very Kool! Thanks Tim! I set my charts up on both the Mac and PC but usually trade on the PC so the clock is placed just right.

I am on a Mac. When I downloaded I got the message that it is a Windows application. Boo Hoo. Looks good for PC folks.
